So you want to know the Instagram sizes and dimensions for 2018. Read this post quickly and make sure to download my free resource, some Instagram Templates to be used as a blueprint, including Instagram Videos and Instagram Stories size ratios. You can use them to customize all your Instagram graphics.

Comparison of the different sizes and formats provided by Instagram using the same original image

Instagram Posts (3 main orientations, but remember, on the profile grid your photo will be always resized as a square… keep this into consideration from the beginning or use the templates at the end of the post to make sure your photo subject will be always perfectly centered).

Square (classic): use a high quality 1080 x 1080 pixels image. Instagram will resample the image on a 600 x 600 pixels but they will store your HQ photo which is cool if you think the screen resolution of the smartphones is rapidly increasing model after model. You can use the same resolution 1080 x 1080 pixels also for the videos.

Landscape (horizontal): A great choice for panoramas, “large” photos and HD videos. Use a high-quality image 1920 x 1080 pixels wide.

For Landscape Videos use a format of at least 1200 × 673 pixels in full view or retina display if you don’t have an HD video. Otherwise, prefer the 1920 x 1080 pixels full HD format.

Portrait (vertical): The format here is 1080 x 1350 pixels. It’ s perfect when you need that extra space to show a subject or additional details. You can also use this format to post your Pins on Instagram. It fits well the Pinterest format.

Instagram Stories (vertical): Prefer the 1080×1920 pixels format both for videos and images.  As a professional, I noticed there is only a constraint (the size of your output file!). If the size of your video is more than 2 Mb forget it! You will not be able to upload it. So take this into consideration while exporting your video. For a photo no worries.

Remember the video should be compressed into an mp4 format.

That’s it I guess! If you want there is a free giveaway for you.

I prepared some Instagram templates (with guides) that you can use as a blueprint to create your own unique images in Photoshop.
